Third Annual Benefit Raises Nearly $9,000
On April 25, 2009 we held our third annual Celebration of Life Benefit, in memory of Katie, at Cherry Grove Bowling Lanes.
We raised almost $9,000!
KHF donated $6,000 to the Mayerson Center for Safe and Healthy Children at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. The Mayerson Center is dedicated to prevention, evaluation, treatment and research of child abuse and neglect.
We also awarded a $2,500 scholarship to a student in the University of Cincinnati's Speech and Language Pathology program. We even donated to Katie’s corner library at Willowville Elementary School (recipient of 2007 benefit proceeds), and made a small donation to the Jeffrey G. Hoeh Memorial Fund, a non-profit organization that helps children struggling with cancer.
It was another successful event, and we are grateful, as always, for our community's ongoing support!
UPDATE from Erica Pearl, PsyD, Mayerson Center for Safe and Healthy Children, on how the Katie Haumesser Foundation donation will be used: The Hamilton County YWCA offers short and long-term housing and support for battered women and their children who have moved beyond an emergency phase where they resided in a battered women’s shelter and are making the transition to independent living. The transitional living program offers these women and children: furnished apartments for 6-18 months, advocacy and case management, employment resource program, support and aftercare services, and a children's program. Parent-Child Interaction Therapy will be used by Erica Pearl, PsyD and Robin Gurwitch, PhD with mothers and children at the Hamilton County YWCA Battered Women’s Shelter Transitional Living Program.
Specifically, the $6,000 Katie Haumesser Foundation donation to The Mayerson Center for Safe and Healthy Children in 2009 will be used to: Purchase toys for use in PCIT treatment; Purchase equipment necessary for PCIT treatment; Purchase measures to evaluate PCIT; Cover minimal professional time for providing intervention, data entry, and data analysis of the program (the majority of the professional time will be donated or billed to third party payor sources)
Raise the Roof Walk Nets $5,000 for Local Charity
Remembering Katie one step at a time ...
On October 11, 2008 we held a walk-a-thon at Beech Acres Park. The proceeds of this event went to the Beechmont Stables Rescue Equi-Kids Program. This program provides horsback riding for children with handicaps, underpriviledged children, volunteers and scouts.
We were able to give them $5,000 toward their mission, thanks to all of our walkers and generous sponsors!
UPDATE: The funds raised by the Katie Haumesser Foundation could not cover the cost to construct the roof for the arena. Instead the money was used to enhance arena safety by adding sand, replacing and expanding the fencing, and creating a rock access road. These updates will improve Beechmont Stables and continue to help the children that attend the Equi-Kids Program.
Charity Road Tour Raises Funds for Local Causes
On June 14th, 2008 Mike Hack of Eastern Corvettes organized a Charity Road Tour/Campout. The proceeds benefited the Mike Martinelli Memorial Fund and the Special Needs department at Willowville Elementary School in honor of Katie.
The Foundation additionally received $943 directly from this event. We gave $250 to a 13 year old boy struggling with a rare liver cancer, $500 to Project Connect Homeless Shelter, and $500 to the YWCA House of Peace Childrens Program.
Many thanks to Mike Hack, Eastern Corvettes, and our generous community of supporters!
Second Annual Benefit Raises $14,000!
Our second annual Celebration of Life Benefit was held at Cherry Grove Bowling Lanes on April 26th, 2008.
The benefit brought in over 150 bowlers and raised nearly $14,000!
We donated $8,000 to the Kelly O'Leary Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, and set up two scholarships for students majoring in the Speech and Language Pathology Program at the University of Cincinnati.
Thanks to all of our bowlers and generous supporters for making this year's benefit a tremendous success!
Inaugural Benefit Raises $7,000 for Willowville Elementary
The first annual Celebration of Life Benefit took place at King Pin Bowling Lanes on April 28, 2007.
On the day of the event, there was an overwhelming sense of love, because many people that were impacted by Katie came to celebrate her wonderful life.
We raised nearly $7,000 to benefit the special needs department at Willowville Elementary School, which was one of the schools where Katie worked as a Speech Pathologist. Many children found their voices because of Katie.
We were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from our community. Thanks to everyone who made our inaugural event such a success!
UPDATE from Laura Nazzarine, Principal at time of donation, Willowville Elementary School, on how the Katie Haumesser Foundation donation was used: "We wanted to find interventions for our students that hit all modalities of learning, engaged students through 21st Century Skills- technology and were aligned with Ohio Academic Content Standards. The Katie Haumesser Foundation allowed us to do that for the first time in my tenure as principal.
With the foundation money donated to WV, we purchased Fastt Math (It is an automatic recall computer program that works on fact fluency in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. It uses all modalities of learning and students are rewarded as they master their facts. Kids (grades 1-5) use it 15 minutes each day, 5 days per week. Willowville experienced such success with this program, it has now been adopted district wide.), Study Island (Study Island is a leading web-based educational resource for students, teachers and parents that focus on state content standards aligned with the Ohio Achievement Assessment. It is interactive and rewards students throughout the program.
Willowville experienced such success with this program, it has now been adopted district wide.) and Brain Pop (It is an animated education website for students that focuses on Science, Health, Technology, Math, Social Studies, English, quizzes, activity pages, and school homework. Willowville experienced such success with this program, it has now been adopted district wide) with the money raised from the Katie Haumesser Foundation.
Katie not only had a profound impact on my life as a principal and on the students of Willowville Elementary; she had impact on our students district wide. I know she would be proud of us for the way we used her gift, and proud of you Amy for keeping her spirit alive! Thanks for all you do for our special education kids! Have a great summer!"
